With 209 members spread across 13 teams entered in the Hockey ACT winter competition, the University of Canberra Hockey Club (UCHC) is one of UC’s proudest sporting groups.
This high number of teams means that their members playing ability can vary from an elite level to those who have never played hockey before. This diverse skill range creates a club that both welcomes and encourages all new members to join.
2016 was a highly successful year for UCHC both on and off the field.
Seven of the club’s sides made finals, while three also secured minor premierships in their division.
The men’s midweek team was the most fruitful, going all the way to claim their competition’s premiership.
With an increase in members at the start of last year, UCHC were able to create a second team within the men’s state league 2 division and were able to grow and better their relationship with their sponsors.
Although the main season is played from April through to September, UCHC do have several teams competing in social summer competitions.
What makes UCHC such an enjoyable and fun team to be a part of is the social perspective of the club.
There’s regular social events held throughout the year, which gives members a chance to mingle and get to know each other off the hockey field. Such activities include: lawn bowls at the RUC, bar rallies, Christmas in July, trivia nights and presentation night just to name a few.
UCHC season will officially launch on Saturday 25th February at their Club Day at the Hockey Centre in Lyneham, men’s registration will start at 10:30am while the women’s will commence at 11:30am.
Be sure to look out for UCHC stall on Market Day during O-Week on 8th February.
