The University of Canberra Hockey Club’s (UCHC) 2017 season has officially launched after their annual Club Day took place at the Lyneham Hockey Centre over the weekend.
Club Day’s purpose is to offer new and returning players the opportunity to register with UCHC and give them the chance to dust off the cobwebs collected over the summer break and have their first hit out of the year.
UCHC president, Jolly Moore, said that 2017 was already shaping as a positive year for the club. A second grade men’s team is set to be fielded for the first time in seven years and the club has also had two teams from the women’s lowest division moved up a grade.
“We’ve been able to push up and add more quality players to our teams, which is really good for the club,” Moore said.
Moore also added that while UCHC has a strong passion for the sport of hockey, it was also a close knit club with a fun culture.
“Whilst we play hard, we’re also a pretty social club. We have lots of social functions throughout the year, which helps everyone get to know each other. We’re a fun club and a lot of really good friendships have been made out of being a part of it.”
