Off the back of an immensely successful 2016, the ACT Dragons Volleyball Club look set to thrive again this year.
Last season saw the Dragons bestowed with the title of Club of the Year by Volleyball ACT (VACT).
The team also managed a medal winning performance from all five of their teams in the Capital Volleyball League (two gold, one silver and two bronze).
On top of this, the club also had 18 teams participating in both open and rec teams across all the VACT competitions.
Each one of these teams also featured in a medal game in 2016, a true testament to the club’s success.
After such a positive season, it can be a difficult task to single those individuals whose contributions helped make the team so prosperous. However, Chris “Disco” Davis and Natasha Popple were awarded with Coach of the Year and the Dragons Heart award respectively after displaying their unquestionable commitment to the club.
The Dragons currently have over one hundred playing members and have high hopes that that number will continue to grow as the year goes on.
The club have developed a strong affiliation with Merici College, helping establish their junior girls program and have ambitions to begin a similar association with Daramalan College sometime this year.
Spikezone, a program which looks to develop the volleyball skills of children aged between eight and 12 has also commenced at Amaroo School.
This year looks set to be yet another productive time for the ACT Dragons Volleyball Club, with more competitions, social events, community engagement and international volleyball than ever before!
