As part of the University of Canberra O-Week celebrations, UCX will be opening a brand new eSports lounge.
The Lounge will be home to 24 Dell Alienware PCs, X-Box, Playstation and Nintendo Switch as well as tabletop games for all to enjoy.
eSports is the second biggest spectator sport in the world with millions of people tuning in to tournaments. The eSports lounge at UC will host national and international tournaments where players can compete against those at other universities and members of the wider gaming community.
“The UC eSports lounge has been developed to enhance the student experience at UC,” said Director of UCX, Sarah Jennett.
“For our students, it means a new and vibrant space to participate in individual and team eSports and a venue for eSports competitions including intervarsity. We are also looking forward to welcoming non-UC students to the space, to further engage with our community.”
The eSports lounge operates on a membership basis. A yearly membership will give members ten hours of play, free access to all tournaments and events, free play on consoles and 50 per cent off additional hours. It will be open from 10am to 4pm on weekdays for the general public and is located in room 1A02 within ‘The Hub’ on campus (opposite Mizzuna Cafe).
